Spas – wellness – health
For centuries, the spa tradition in South Bohemia has been associated with natural healing wells that are very abundant in this region – the moorlands. These are utilized for healing afflictions of the human kinetic system, rheumatism, traumatogenic and post-operative conditions, and neurologic afflictions. The rich supply of moorlands from peatbogs led to the formation of the first spa building in Bechyně (25 km southwest of Tábor) in the early 18th century. The spa tradition was tied to Třeboň until the 1880's, then from the 1920's it was operated in the castle in Vráž (10 km north of Písek). The healing effects of a stay in one of South Bohemia's spas are supported by the quality of the surrounding natural environment. The positive climate, active movement, and a stay in the natural South Bohemia region bring about an overall feeling of harmony to the body and soul.
