Winter holiday
Accept our invitation to the white-enshrouded landscape of South Bohemia, offering a number of opportunities for plenty of winter merrymaking. Fans of rough nature are sure to find something to please them in Czech Canada, as are those who love winter walks through the snowy woods of Šumava, and the magnetic environs of the Nové Hrady Mountains will satisfy those who long for an as yet untouched dose of pure South Bohemian nature. All of this is available in South Bohemia for anyone who wishes to draw new energy. One of the best-known areas is doubtlessly Šumava with its vast plains at an altitude above 1000 meters, traditionally attracting cross-country enthusiasts as well as downhill skiers. Šumava holds another gem, however – Lake Lipno, the largest water surface in the Czech Republic, glimmering in the rays of the winter sun. In the wintertime, the surface of Lipno turns into one enormous skating rink, great not only for ice skating but also for cross-country skiing, something you don't experience every day. During good snow conditions, you can enjoy cross-country skiing in the mysterious Czech Canada area near Jindřichův Hradec as well. The Nové Hrady Mountains, in contrast to the previously mentioned areas, are so secret that many people don't even know they exist as a winter recreation area. The irony of this is that this part of South Bohemia, with its deep forests, numerous crystal clear streams, and its favourable climate, is one of the best-preserved natural areas in the entire Czech Republic. The high number of marked and unmarked ski trails create the ideal conditions for winter sports enthusiasts and are very attractive for cross-country skiers.
