Czechoslovak Fortification Museum Klášter II

Czechoslovak Fortification Museum Klášter II

Take the opportunity to visit 8 accessible light fortification structures built in 1938 to defend the state border.

The museum is located 1.5 km east of the village of Klášter II near Nová Bystřice. It was established in 1992 and is the oldest of its kind in South Bohemia and one of the oldest in the Czech Republic. Currently, it comprises 8 light fortification objects built in 1938 to defend Czechoslovakia from Nazi Germany.

The main exhibition bunker (no. 159, type B2-100N) is equipped with period soldier gear and original furnishings (including a functional periscope and hand ventilator) and restored to the state it was in during the mobilization in September 1938. The tour includes expert commentary.

A second exhibition object (no. 157, type A-140N) is accessible during major tours and represents the state of border fortifications as they appeared in the late 1980s, still maintained by the Czechoslovak army for the defense of the Soviet bloc.

Two marked trails lead through the area – the “Landštejn” and “Klášter” routes – where visitors can view six additional bunkers. One (no. 156, type A-160N) has its embrasures destroyed by explosives, allowing visitors to see the thickness of the concrete walls. Nearby are preserved original trenches. Another object (no. 162, type A-160N) is partially dug out to the foundation, showing how deep the bunkers were built. Also along the route is the preserved foundation of a former military cabin from 1936, used to house the bunkers' crews. Bunkers that can be viewed from the outside include no. 158 (type B2-80N), no. 161 (type A-160N), and no. 164 (type A-140N).

At the museum, you can purchase literature on Czechoslovak fortifications, postcards, and souvenirs.
