Street performers, Tábor
The 15th edition of the international street theatre festival in Tábor.
The international ‘Comedians in the Streets’ festival in Tábor was founded in 2011. With its artistic vision, it is one of the few Czech festivals to present contemporary street theatre in the centre of a historic conservation area. It offers a programme focusing on trends that reflect contemporary street art both at home and abroad. Its specialities include circus arts, clowns, pantomime, puppetry, physical theatre, interactive performances, workshops and music.
This year’s edition of ‘Komedianti v ulicích’ features a brand-new premiere by the acrobatic duo Martina Illichová and Lukáš Macháček. The acrobatic performance *About Circles and People* depicts a man and aa woman, taking place on every part of the rings in positions permitted only by the laws of physics – both independently and in close contact, just above the ground and at great heights. You’ll see dance as you’ve never seen it before.
This year’s international guests will mainly come from South America. The Brazilian entertainer Inka Clown will perform on all three days of the festival, showcasing extraordinary feats on a six-metre-high Chinese pole. From Argentina, the contemporary circus duo Circo Eguap will be arriving; all they need to journey from Earth to uncharted realms of space is a few plastic buckets. They will also be showcasing the unusual discipline of ‘hair hanging’, i.e. hanging by one’s hair. On Saturday evening, the band Desmadre Orkestra will fill Žižka Square with Argentine rhythms.
Czech street theatre will be represented by the popular Bratři v tricku withtheir new show *Pošťáci* and a troupe of acrobats from BoCirk, who will perform a contemporary circus street show full of acrobatics and go-karts called *Summer Heat*. The popular Holektiv will also be there, this time with their new show Pradleny. An acrobatic spectacle called Tyč on the Beach will bring the atmosphere of a summer beach to Tábor.
The 15th edition of the festival will also feature several fairy tales performed by the Dřevěné divadlo and Divadlo 100 opic. On Sunday afternoon, children will be treated to fairy tales about animals and robbers, or about a little rabbit and the great carrot mystery. The evening programme will be enlivened by the bands Timudej and Ganifim, as well as the now-traditional Friday fire show, this time on the theme of dragon riders. For those who wish to get actively involved, there will be interactive performances by mimes, clowns, jugglers and stilt-walkers.
