Relational Fields
The 2026 exhibition project at Bechyně Castle is dedicated to the theme Relational Fields, which explores how art can connect individuals, generations, histories and different environments. In an era marked by social fragmentation, digital isolation, environmental urgency and heightened sensitivity to political and social issues, the exhibition reflects on the role of art as a space for dialogue and shared understanding.
The exhibition brings together contemporary artists of several generations and different artistic approaches. Their works enter into a dialogue with the historical environment of Bechyně Castle, its sculptural park with aviaries and late Gothic granary, and respond to the unique genius loci of this place. Through installations, spatial interventions and conceptual works, the artists relate to architecture, landscape and history.
An important part of the project is The Stava Family Collection, which is presented in conjunction with the newly published catalogue The Stava Family Collection - Part I. This catalogue documents the entire collection of 20th century abstract and non-figurative art as well as selected ceramic works. Significant portions of this collection have been presented in previous exhibitions at Bechyně Castle in the projects Avantgarde (2024) and Humanity (2025).
For the exhibition Relational Fields the participating artists have selected works from the State Family Collection to accompany their own realizations. Their choices reflect artistic influences, personal connections, stylistic antecedents, and works that resonate with their work. The exhibition thus creates an intergenerational dialogue between contemporary artistic approaches and significant works of 20th century art.
The exhibition is conceived as a dialogue across traditions, generations, backgrounds and perspectives. It connects contemporary artistic practice with historic architecture, nature and the legacy of modern art, revealing relationships that transcend time and artistic lineages while remaining firmly anchored in the unique context of Bechyně Castle.
