Circus Meanders – Contemporary Circus and Theatre Festival

Venue: Český Krumlov

24. 6. — 26. 6.

A new kind of cultural experience is coming to Český Krumlov – the Cirkusové meandry festival. Behind its creation stands the town of Český Krumlov and, above all, the team behind Prague’s iconic Letní Letná festival, which has been shaping the contemporary circus scene and broadening horizons in the Czech Republic for two decades.

New Circus

New Circus is gaining a growing audience of all generations. As a modern form of theatre, it combines acrobatics, dance, physical theatre, live music and an artistic component. The performances are often wordless, yet powerfully impressive - offering not only tension and beauty of movement, but also emotion, humour, and reflection.

About the festival

The festival is the brainchild of the town of Český Krumlov and especially the team of the iconic Letná Letná in Prague, which has been setting the direction and expanding the horizons of new circus in the Czech Republic for two decades. The main programme will include performances by the award-winning Losers Cirque Company, known for its precise acrobatics and visually impressive performances, or Cirk La Putyka, which has been winning acclaim at home and abroad. There will also be Cirko Hopley with its humorous cooking and acrobatic show Teacrobat, which will entertain young and old alike and for which its creator Michal Mudrák won the Danish Minister of Culture's Den Danske Cirkuspris award and a nomination for Thalia 2024.

The programme for children deserves special attention. Don't expect classic fairy tale narratives, but playful, interactive and artistically rich performances that develop the imagination and surprise with their originality. In addition, children can get involved in circus workshops, games and creativity themselves - so it's not just a passive viewing, but a live experience.

Circus Meanders is not just a festival, but a new space for encounters, curiosity and inspiration - and right in the middle of the city, where a circus town will be built in the City Park during the festival. In addition to the chapitó and theatre tents, there will be a zone full of comfort, good food and drink in the shade of the trees, where spectators, artists, families and curious passers-by will meet. Circus Meanders invites you not only to attend a performance, but also to enjoy an afternoon or evening in the park.
