20th Bread Festival in Lenora
The Šumava village of Lenora is set to become a hub for traditional crafts and celebrations of the art of baking. This year’s edition of the popular Bread Festival is also an anniversary event – it will mark twenty years since its inception with a packed programme for the whole family.
The day’s festivities will kick off at 9.00 am with an opening ceremony. One of the main attractions of the morning will undoubtedly be the arrival of the historic Bread Steam Train, hauled by the ‘Všudybylka’ locomotive, which will arrive from Volary shortly after half past nine.
The centrepiece of the festivities will be the Lenor bakery oven, from which the aroma of fresh bread will waft. Visitors can look forward to:
- The announcement of the ‘Bread of the Year 2026’ competition: Who will bake the best loaf this year? The results will be announced at 12.30 pm.
- Musical performances: In the afternoon, the band Nabeton will get the audience dancing (14:00), and the evening will feature a Musical Evening and entertainment with the band Kocovina.
- A colourful market and crafts: The market will feature Czech handmade products and fresh baked goods (including gluten-free options). Those interested will be able to try their hand at glass cutting, working in a pottery workshop, blacksmithing or woodcarving.
The organisers have not forgotten the children either. Creative workshops have been prepared for them, focusing on making ceremonial pastries, plaiting braids and face painting. There will also be bouncy castles, sports facilities and fairy tales with magic, hosted by Josef Maxa.
The whole event will be accompanied by delicious refreshments, coffee and ice cream. If you’re looking for a great way to spend a Saturday in the spirit of tradition and good cheer, the Bread Festival in Lenora is the obvious choice.
