The Libín Lookout Tower returns in all its glory
One of the most striking landmarks in the Šumava foothills, the Libín observation tower, is once again opening its doors to the public. Following months of extensive renovation, which has breathed new life into the tower, a grand celebration will be held for all lovers of panoramic views and the Šumava countryside.
The observation tower has undergone a major transformation since October last year. The main alterations included the renovation of the façade, structural reinforcement of the masonry and the installation of new windows and doors. The entrance area, in particular, has undergone a significant change, with the creation of a new, safer access route to the staircase, which partly reflects the original historical design of the builders.
The entire restoration, costing over 7 million crowns, was part of the wider cross-border project ‘The Tower Saga’, which was developed in collaboration with Bavarian partners under the auspices of the Interreg programme. The aim of the project is not only the physical restoration of the monuments, but also the digital narration of the mystical stories of four selected watchtowers in the border region.
The organisers from the town of Prachatice have not forgotten the youngest visitors either, for whom a packed programme of children’s activities has been prepared. Refreshments will be available throughout the event in the immediate vicinity of the recently renovated Libín Mountain Chalet.
