The 32nd Volary Wood Festival
The South Bohemian town of Volary is preparing for one of its most important festivals. The 32nd Volary Timber Festival will take place over the weekend of 22 and 23 August 2026. This traditional event, which attracts thousands of visitors from across the region and abroad every year, will once again bring the town’s historic centre to life and celebrate its rich history of timber production.
The festival is a celebration of craftsmanship, traditions and community life. Visitors can look forward to a packed programme that combines history with modern entertainment.
The programme kicks off on Saturday at 9.00 am in the square with the opening ceremony, followed by a folk market featuring demonstrations of traditional crafts. The day’s main highlights include:
- The Euro Jack woodcutting competition: A thrilling contest that puts the strength and skill of the woodcutters to the test.
- The international entertainment competition ‘The Travelling Clog’: A crowd-favourite event full of humour and unconventional performances.
- Music stage: The afternoon and evening will be filled with concerts. Performers will include Martina Pártlová, Karel Gott Revival Morava, Mňága a Žďorp and Olympic Revival.
Sunday’s programme will begin at 8.00 am with a solemn Mass at St Catherine’s Church, featuring a blessing of the town. The highlight of the day will be:
- The Clog March: A traditional attempt to break the record for the number of participants wearing this typical Volary footwear. The start is scheduled for 11.30.
- Speed woodcarving: A demonstration of artistic woodcarving using a chainsaw.
An accompanying programme will also be organised on both days. Children can look forward to puppet shows at the museum (e.g. The Magic Bell or Otesánek), a bouncy castle and a haunted house in the small park by the station. Nature lovers will appreciate the exhibition by the local allotment association.
