Church of St. John of Nepomuk

Church of St. John of Nepomuk

This 19th-century church is located in the center of Hluboká nad Vltavou on the main street.

The Church of St. John of Nepomuk is situated in Hluboká nad Vltavou. The first foundation stone was laid in 1845. Since the construction progressed quickly, the bells, which had been transferred from the castle chapel, were hung on September 2, 1846, and rang for the first time the following day. The consecration was carried out with great ceremony on May 16, 1847, by Cardinal Friedrich of Schwarzenberg. The church was dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk, the patron saint of the Schwarzenberg family, and since then, the St. John’s pilgrimage has been celebrated annually on May 16 in Hluboká nad Vltavou.

In the 1990s, a complete renovation of the church was undertaken. The solemn conclusion of these long-term and costly repairs was marked in 2005 by the ceremonial consecration of new bells, cast by the Passau-based company Rudolf Perner. The trio of bells bears the names Jan Nepomucký, Vojtěch, and Václav.
