The Church of St. John of Nepomuk
This 19th-century church is located in the center of Hluboká nad Vltavou, on the main street.
The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1845. As construction progressed quickly, the bells transferred from the castle chapel were hung on September 2, 1846, and rung for the first time the next day. The consecration took place with great ceremony on May 16, 1847, performed by Cardinal Friedrich of Schwarzenberg. The church was dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk, the patron saint of the Schwarzenberg family, and since then, the annual St. John’s Pilgrimage has been celebrated in Hluboká nad Vltavou on May 16.
In the 1990s, the church underwent complete renovation. In 2005, the ceremonial consecration of new bells marked the culmination of these long-term and costly repairs. The three new bells, cast by the Rudolf Perner foundry in Passau, are named John of Nepomuk, Adalbert, and Wenceslas.
