Sugar Cube Monument in Dačice

Sugar Cube Monument in Dačice

The granite monument built in 1983 is one of the most visited tourist sites in Dačice. It commemorates the year 1843, when the Dačice invention – the sugar cube – began its victorious journey across European and world markets.

The monument stands in a small park near the tall Renaissance tower of the Church of St. Lawrence. In 2012, commemorative plaques were added around the site, describing this important event in twelve foreign languages.

You can read the story of the world’s first sugar cube here or listen to it at the Dačice Museum, where part of the permanent exhibition is dedicated to this global invention. More info: www.muzeumdacice.cz
