Augustinian Monastery Borovany
Discover one of the smallest, yet most beautiful monasteries in South Bohemia.
Experience a guided tour with all six senses – discover…, hear…, try…, meet…, taste… We look forward to welcoming you to the monastery in Borovany.
The Augustinian Monastery
was founded in 1455 by Peter of Linda. It was dissolved under the rule of the Rožmberk family. Restored in 1663 by Emperor Ferdinand III, the Skapulary Chapel and the prestigious prelature were added in the mid-18th century. In 1785, the monastery was abolished by Emperor Joseph II. The prelature (chateau) was owned by the Schwarzenberg family until 1939.
