Blatná Municipal Museum

Blatná Municipal Museum

A regional museum with a permanent exhibition and year-round temporary exhibitions

The Blatná Municipal Museum is regional in nature, which is reflected in its ethnographic, archaeological, historical (archives, prints, photographs, etc.), and fine art collections.

In February 2017, the first part of a new permanent exhibition opened on the first floor. It focuses on archaeology in the Blatná region. Through interactive displays, visitors can learn about life in local settlements and even touch original artifacts from nearby hillforts. The exhibition is educational and suitable for school trips.

The same floor houses a well-lit gallery space used for museum, regional history, and art exhibitions, featuring items from the museum's collections. A research room is located on the second floor.

The museum library specializes in regional, Czech, and world history, museology, auxiliary historical sciences, fine arts, and more. It holds many professional journals, including: Český časopis historický, Jihočeský sborník historický, Výběr, Minulostí západočeského kraje, Podbrdsko, Historický obzor, Český lid, Zprávy památkové péče, and others. On-site study of collection items and literature is possible upon prior written or telephone arrangement.
