Pilgrimage Church of the Holy Trinity
Probably the most impressive monument of Trhové Sviny and its surroundings is the Pilgrimage Church of the Holy Trinity – located just under two kilometers south of the town.
A chapel stood here as early as the 16th century, attracting many pilgrims. The present Baroque church was built between 1708–1710, funded by voluntary donations, though the architect remains unknown. The layout is based on a central plan, designed to reflect the dedication to the Holy Trinity – with three altars, three gables and small towers, triangular windows, and surrounded by a hexagonal cloister with three turrets. The valuable Baroque ceiling fresco of the Holy Trinity was painted in 1709 by Bonanella, an artist from České Budějovice. Nearby stands a small former spa house operated by the town until the late 19th century. A remarkable triangular chapel shelters a spring whose water was traditionally believed to have healing powers, especially for eye ailments.
The church can be visited by prior arrangement with the caretaker, reachable at +420 732 192 158.
