Ruins of Sokolčí Castle

Ruins of Sokolčí Castle

Sokolčí Castle is one of those castles situated in the most romantic landscapes and terrain settings.

Just beyond the village, on a rocky promontory above the Černá River, lie the well-preserved remnants of Sokolčí Castle. However, little is known about its history. According to information published on www.hradynamalsi.cz, the castle was probably founded after 1358 by Jindřich of Velešín, a member of the Lords of Michalovice. By 1541, less than 200 years later, it was already described as ruined.

Today, the ruins are maintained by the association Hrady na Malši, which includes the site in its "Zemská cesta" project.

How to get there

From Soběnov, follow the path towards Děkanské Skaliny, then descend into the Černá River Valley. Turn right at the "U Dubu" mill and continue along the "Údolím Černé" nature trail, marked in green.

If the river’s water level is low, you can ford the river and take the direct route to the castle promontory. If the water level is high, take the accessible footpath to the Soběnov Dam and cross the river via the dam.

From there, the castle is less than 500 challenging meters downstream, requiring a steep climb up the rocky outcrop where it stands. Along the way, you might encounter rock climbers, as the granite wall beneath the castle is a popular climbing spot.
