Landscape of Change in Vidov
One of the reasons to visit Vidov is the educational trail “Landscape of Change” and the traditional autumn event Zelnobraní.
The area where Vidov is located today was inhabited as early as the Early Bronze Age (19th to 16th century BC), as evidenced by a burial mound site located about 1 km south in the so-called Panský forest toward Heřmaň. The first written mention of the village, however, comes from 1357 AD. Historical records indicate that Vidov was at that time an independent estate with a fortified manor. Only remnants of the manor remain today, visible beneath the floor of the local general store.
Another reason to visit Vidov is the educational trail “Landscape of Change,” a 4 km long, easy circular route with 12 stops. The starting point is the city bus stop in the center of the village – making Vidov easily accessible from České Budějovice. In addition to taking the bus, visitors can also use cycling route no. 1018 along the Malše River and complete the trail by bike.
Thanks to the efforts of the municipality and the Friends of Vidov Association, numerous cultural and social events are held throughout the year. One traditional event is “Zelnobraní,” which is regularly held at the turn of September and October – another reason to make your way to Vidov.
