Folk Baroque – Zbudov Blata Region
The main area where several village conservation zones preserve the unique South Bohemian folk baroque architecture.
Blata is a historical region notable especially for its architecture – it forms the center of so-called "folk baroque." In the broader sense, Blata villages are situated in the Budějovice basin between the towns of Hluboká nad Vltavou, Vodňany, and the northern slopes of the Blanský Forest. The symbolic core of the Blata region includes Plástovice, Sedlec, Zbudov, Malé Chrášťany, Mahouč, Česká Lhota, Mydlovary, and Pištín – historically known as the Zbudov Blata. In a broader context, villages like Bavorovice, České Vrbné, and Opatovice near the Vltava River, as well as Záboří, Dobčice, Strýčice, and especially Holašovice, are also part of it.
The style of rural homesteads varies from village to village, influenced by size and distinct historical development. Architecture enthusiasts will enjoy the decorative gables, symbolic motifs, and volutes. Nature lovers will be enchanted by the South Bohemian countryside captured in Karel Klostermann’s novel Mists over the Moorlands.
The Zbudov Blata landscape is flat and threaded with bike paths – ideal for families with children. On your journey, you can also swim in nearby ponds. Discover the beauty of the Zbudov Blata by bike!
