Chapel of Saint Anthony on Javorník

Chapel of Saint Anthony on Javorník

From the Chapel of St. Anthony on Javorník, situated at 1,009 meters above sea level, there is a beautiful view of the village of the same name and a large part of South Bohemia. This modern-day rotunda was built in 1940 on the slope of what was then the border of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The chapel is named after Anthony of Padua (1195–1231), a Franciscan monk, theologian, preacher, and patron saint of lovers, marriage, women, and children. The traditional pilgrimages and masses to St. Anthony at Javorník were revived in 2011. From the chapel, you can continue to the Javorník lookout tower and enjoy views of the Šumava Mountains as well as South and West Bohemia.
