Chapel of Saint Anthony on Javorník

Chapel of Saint Anthony on Javorník

From the chapel behind Klostermann to the lookout tower.

From the Chapel of St. Anthony on Javorník, located at 1,009 m above sea level, there is a beautiful view of the village of Javorník and a large part of South Bohemia. The modern rotunda was built in 1940 on the slope of what was then the border of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The chapel is dedicated to Anthony of Padua (1195–1231), a Franciscan monk, theologian, preacher, and patron saint of lovers, marriage, women, and children. Traditional pilgrimages and masses to St. Anthony at Javorník were revived in 2011. From the chapel, you can continue to the Javorník lookout tower and enjoy views of the Šumava mountains, southern and western Bohemia.
