Remarkable Baroque and Classicist tombstones on a cemetery from the 18th century

The Jewish cemetery is located along the main road, on the shore of the Munický Pond. It was established around the mid-18th century and has preserved many remarkable Baroque and Classicist tombstones, the oldest of which dates back to 1750. Originally, the cemetery lay right at the edge of the Munický Pond and covered about half its current size. It was not until the second half of the 19th century that the pond shore was regulated, and the cemetery area was significantly expanded eastward. The importance of the Hluboká cemetery lies also in the fact that Jews from a wide surrounding area were buried here – from České Budějovice, Rudolfov, and Borovany, places that did not have their own Jewish cemetery.
