Soběslav Municipal Library

The municipal library in Soběslav is a public universal library located since 2010 in the newly renovated northern wing of the town’s Gothic castle from the 14th century—one of the most significant landmarks in Soběslav. This unique building uses a historical site where, for instance, King Wenceslas IV was imprisoned in 1394.

The castle was built in the 14th century as part of the town's fortifications and was among the important residences of the Rosenberg family. Unlike typical defensive castles, it primarily served as the seat of the burgrave, who managed the vast Rosenberg estates. The complex was originally surrounded by walls.

Fun fact:
The Soběslav Municipal Library won the GRAND PRIX 2011—National Prize for Architecture in the category of Reconstruction.
