Additional information
The castle was first mentioned in historical records in 1356 in connection with Vítek of Borotín, who came from one of the branches of the powerful South Bohemian noble family, the Vítkovci, Lords of Landštejn. He is considered a possible founder of the castle.
Borotín Castle was one of the many stops of Karel Hynek Mácha, who placed the settings of his novels in such gloomy locations. The castle was also featured in the 1976 Czech film Honza málem králem.
Do you know that...
Did you know that opposite the castle stands a Baroque farmstead, first mentioned in 1557, when it served as an unfortified forecourt with farm buildings? This unique cultural monument is currently undergoing restoration. In the future, it will serve as a recreational area and as a venue for cultural and social events. Traditional events include Dožínky (harvest festival) and Easter on the Farm.
