Schwarzenberg tomb Domanín

Schwarzenberg tomb Domanín

A place where the representatives of the famous Schwarzenberg family are buried.

The Schwarzenberg tomb is one of the most remarkable architectural monuments in southern Bohemia. It is located in a park on the southeast side of the Pond World.

The tomb was built in 1877 by Jan Adolf II. Schwarzenberg and his wife Princess Eleonora, according to the project of the builder F. D. Deworetzki, who was, among other things, a co-creator of the rebuilding of Hluboká Castle. The tomb is built in a neo-gothic style with a monumental stair ramp. The chapel is dominated by an altar of white sandstone, plaster and Istrian marble. The tomb itself is a valuable marble sarcophagus from 1789, which was a place imported from Vienna. There are 26 double-skinned coffins with embalmed bodies in the tomb.
