Spring in the Písek Mountains

Spring in the Písek Mountains

The excellent water quality attracts locals and travelers alike.

The "U Dobré vody" spring dates back to 1933. It lies on the red tourist trail that circles Velký Mehelník mountain, about three kilometers southeast of Písek. The spring lives up to its name – the emerging water has excellent parameters and is accessible year-round.

The spring structure itself is well preserved, but the surrounding area needs upgrades: a better access path, handrail, bike rack, and terrain adjustment.

Velký Mehelník is the highest peak in the Písek Mountains. Its summit is covered with large boulders, the most famous being the “Robbers' Table” – over a meter tall and nearly two meters wide. Some archaeologists and historians believe it was once a site for pagan sacrificial rituals. Folk tales say robbers feasted here during the time of Charles IV.
