Church of St. Clement in Mirovice
The largest church in the Písek region outside the city of Písek
A large church rises above the Skalice River, dominating the small town at the northern edge of the Písek region. Originally a work of early Gothic architecture, it was redesigned in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. The renovation plans were initially drawn by the famous Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer, but ultimately the design of the Schwarzenberg architect Fortini was chosen. The church contains well-preserved Renaissance tombstones of local noble families. The main altar is adorned with one of the most valuable examples of early Baroque painting, although it originated as a financial compromise due to lack of funds.
What makes it unique:
- Unique painted main altar
- Renaissance noble tombstones
- Gothic statue of the Madonna and Child
