Church of St. Wenceslas in Krč near Protivín

An unexpected surprise in the form of unique Gothic murals from the 14th century.

One of the least known churches in the Písek region is located near Protivín. When it was built during the Gothic period, the church in Krč was dedicated to St. Nicholas, and thus, its interior features many murals depicting this saint. The dedication was later changed to St. Wenceslas, so today you can also see the patron saint of the Czech lands along with villagers working in the vineyard and in the field. There is also the tombstone of Jiřík Zelendar, a regional governor who contributed to the construction of fishponds in the surrounding picturesque landscape, which is now known as Zelendárky.
