Monument of the Battle of Sudoměř

Monument of the Battle of Sudoměř

A monumental statue of the Hussite commander Jan Žižka stands in the midst of beautiful nature, commemorating his famous victory in the Battle of Sudoměř in 1420.

The monument was completed in 1925 and is a 16-meter-high structure made of stone blocks. The author is academic sculptor Emanuel Kodet. It is located between the ponds Markovec, Škaredý, and Prostřední, near the village of Sudoměř and close to the well-known Řežabinec nature reserve.

About 200 meters from the Jan Žižka of Trocnov monument, there are wooden statues of Hussite warriors. These four sculptures were designed and created by Ivan Šmilauer from a five-meter oak tree that was uprooted during a storm in July 2011. Each warrior has a name—Břeněk, Jan, Mikuláš, and Viktorín. These statues honor the bravery and heroism of the Hussite warriors and symbolize four hundred fighters.

How to get there

Two marked hiking trails (green and blue) pass by the monument, and it is also accessible via cycle route No. 1072.

There is a parking lot for cars near the monument.
