Observation Tower of the Church of the Virgin Mary

Observation Tower of the Church of the Virgin Mary

The large tower of the deanery church, with a total height of 72 meters, was built in 1489 on a 10×10 meter ground plan as a city watchtower. At 42 meters, there was an apartment for the watchman, who monitored for potential dangers. Today, it serves as a lookout tower offering views of the entire town.

Do you know that...

…Did you know that at the very top of the tower, there is a capsule containing documents about the tower’s repairs — and above it, a two-meter-high cross?
