Javorník – Klostermann Lookout Tower
The Javorník hill was a favorite spot of writer Karel Klostermann, who enjoyed its then-deep forests and solitude. The stone lookout tower, built in 1938, offers stunning views from a height of 32 m over the Šumava mountains and inland. Its total height is 40 m.
There are three different routes up:
- From the Kašperské Hory – Stachy road
- Along the trail from Vacov via Rohanov and Lhota
- From the road near Nezdice
From there, a 1 100 m steep climb leads to the summit.
The path to the top of Javorník passes by the rotunda of Saint Anthony of Padua, built in 1939. The summit panorama includes Šumava landscapes toward Libín, Boubín, Černé hory, Poledník, Velký Javorník, Svatobor and Třístoličník. In clear weather, you can also see the town of Písek, the Rábí castle ruins, Temelín and Brdy.
Do you know that...
…in 2002, work began on an extension of the lookout tower, because the original 1938 structure had been overgrown by fir trees in its immediate surroundings?
