Volyně Town Museum
Exhibitions in the Volyně fortress – regional, ethnographic, and art displays. The origins of the museum activity in Volyně date back to the 1880s and were further strengthened by participation in the Czechoslavic Ethnographic Exhibition in Prague in 1895.
Since 1912, all activities have been managed by the newly established museum society, culminating in 1934 with the opening of the “Museum of the Town of Volyně and the Volyně Region” in the former vocational school. The medieval Volyně fortress, where the museum still resides, was not opened to the public until 1956.
Today, the museum is open year-round and features two permanent exhibitions – “Volyně in Prehistory” and “History of the Volyně Fortress” – as well as temporary art and history exhibitions in three gallery spaces.
