Plechý Lookout
Plechý, the highest peak of the Czech part of the Šumava Mountains, lies on the Czech-Austrian border above the glacial Plešné Lake and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The mountain draws visitors with many attractions. The most striking is the glacial Plešné Lake. Above the lake stands a 14.5-meter-high monument to writer and poet Adalbert Stifter. On the southern slope of Plechý rises the 211-meter-high glacial cirque wall of the lake.
How to get there
From the Czech side, Plechý can be reached via the yellow-marked trail from the lake, which is best accessed via the green trail from Nová Pec near Lipno. A red-marked ridge trail also leads to the summit from the settlement of Nové Údolí (4 km south of Stožec), passing Dreisesselberg, Trojmezí, and Trojmezná (15 km, approximately a 5-hour hike).
