Church of St. Margaret in Strakonice
In 1583, the townspeople of Strakonice had a large church built on an island, using the foundations of an earlier Gothic church from the early 13th century. The new church allowed for communion under both kinds.
Additional information
The Flemish architect V. Vogarelli was entrusted with its construction. The resulting hall-style Renaissance building, featuring Gothic elements, is vaulted with a net star-shaped ceiling. The church’s furnishings are Neo-Gothic, dating from 1984. During roof renovations in 2000, documents from the year 1873 were discovered in the dome.
