Lookout – Chapel of the Guardian Angel
The Chapel of the Guardian Angel, located above the town of Volyně at an altitude of 528 meters, was built in 1858 according to the plans of prominent local architect Josef Niklas. After a short walk, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the entire town.
The path to the chapel is unmarked. From the Volyně square, head down the street leading toward the train station. After crossing the bridge over the Volyňka River, turn right in the direction of Bavorov. After crossing the railway, turn left between houses at the edge of the forest. Pass the train station on your left; here, on a tree, you’ll find a sign with an arrow marked “andělíček” (little angel). Walk between gardens, continue across a meadow, and after 200 meters reach the edge of the forested Královec hill. Follow the forest path to the Chapel of the Guardian Angel, where you can rest on a bench and enjoy the view of the town.
To return, follow the path behind the chapel, marked with faint white arrows that will lead you through scenic viewpoints of the town and surrounding landscape back to Volyně. The loop is about 3 km long and is suitable for walking. Bicycles must be pushed during the climb to the chapel.
Do you know that...
…is the hill where the chapel stands locally called “Andělíček”? On the way from Volyně, you’ll encounter the “Andělíček Educational Trail” with two stops.
