Lookout Tower Čestice near Volyně
The telecommunications tower with an adjacent seven-meter-high viewing platform was opened above the village of Čestice at the end of 1999. The lookout offers a partial view of the Šumava Mountains, but mainly of Čestice and the surrounding area.
How to get there
The tower is located on the western edge of Čestice. You can reach it from the village square by following the paved path past the church. After about 300 meters, turn right and walk up a gentle slope until you reach a dirt path that leads the last few meters to the tower.
It is also possible to drive directly to the tower. From the village, turn toward the church and follow the uphill road to the lookout, where parking is available.
On foot, the nearest train station is in Volyně (railway line No. 198: Strakonice – Volary). From there, take the blue tourist trail, turn right at Nahořany, and follow the asphalt road to Čestice (approx. 10 km). Another option is to take cycle route No. 121 from Volyně, which runs along local roads to Čestice.
Additional information
The tower stands on a hill above the village near the local waterworks, at an elevation of 595 meters above sea level.
On the neighboring hill, there is a classicist chapel of the Stations of the Cross from 1820. In the village below is an originally Romanesque church. Not far below the chapel, there is a beautifully painted hermitage. Keys can be borrowed from the fence of a house located below the chapel.
