Museum of Displaced Villages
A permanent exhibition on the dramatic events in the Novohradsko region, displacement, forced resettlement, and also the distant history reaching back to the Middle Ages. Visitors can view historical and contemporary photographs as well as objects from former inhabitants of the Novohradsko region. The exhibition area is divided into five sections: history of the settlement of Novohradsko, facts about displacement, stories from the time of displacement, repopulated villages, and vanished villages.
The museum exhibition introduces visitors to the history of settlement in Novohradsko, the arrival of German-speaking inhabitants in the area, and chronologically presents the various reasons for people leaving for other regions and countries. The topic of the expulsion of Germans after World War II, which left a deep mark in the Novohradské Mountains and elsewhere in the Czech Republic, is presented in the greatest detail. The exhibition features information panels, historical and current photographs, and actual objects belonging to former residents who left Novohradsko for various reasons.
The museum’s exhibition area is divided into two floors, allowing the topics to be spatially separated. We offer an engaging exhibition covering an area of 490 m².
The exhibition is divided into five sections:
- History of Settlement in Novohradsko – here you will find a list of the oldest villages and learn, for example, how German-speaking residents came to the area.
- Facts about Displacement – here you will learn how the post-war displacement took place, how many people were expelled, and what they had to take with them.
- Stories from the Time of Displacement – here you can find personal stories from people affected during that period.
- Repopulated Villages – this section covers villages that were depopulated due to the end of the war and displacement but were soon repopulated by new inhabitants and remained “alive.”
- Vanished Villages – the final section presents several villages that completely disappeared. You can look forward to authentic photographs.
