Jezerní slať – Raised Bog near Kvilda

Jezerní slať is a raised bog located between Horská Kvilda and Kvilda, partially accessible via a wooden footpath.

For a better view of the surrounding landscape, we recommend climbing to the top of the two-storey observation tower located on the edge of the bog, cleverly concealed among tall trees.

The Jezerní slať near Kvilda is part of one of the largest peat bog complexes in the Czech Republic, with a total area of approximately 190 hectares, making it one of the largest bog systems in the Šumava region.

How to get there

Visitors can make use of a reinforced parking area that also serves as the starting point of a hiking trail.

Do you know that...

...this is one of the coldest places in the Czech Republic? Even during the summer months, temperatures can drop to freezing. Thanks to this specific climate, several cold-loving plant species thrive here, such as hare’s-tail cottongrass (Eriophorum vaginatum), dwarf birch (Betula nana), and others.
