Maiden Stone
A monumental, romantic ruin set on a high cliff in stunning natural surroundings.
Dívčí Kámen is a romantic ruin situated on a high rock at the confluence of the Křemžský Brook and the Vltava River, between České Budějovice and Český Krumlov.
The castle area is rich in botanical and zoological diversity, thanks to the combination of rocky terrain, meandering waterways, and human influence. The surroundings have been declared a nature reserve and are part of the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area. The site's atmosphere is enhanced by the close proximity of a Celtic oppidum, one of the largest and most important of its kind in Europe. Dívčí Kámen is among the largest and best-preserved medieval monuments in the Czech Republic.
The castle was founded by the famous Rosenberg family in 1349 and abandoned by them in 1506. 500 years after its abandonment, the castle became the property of the nearby town of Křemže. Today, it hosts regular concerts, historical reenactments, swordplay and theatrical performances, as well as medieval markets, lectures, and exhibitions.
