Boubín Primeval Forest and Lake

Boubín Primeval Forest and Lake

The largest preserved primeval forest in Central Europe

Towering above the core of the 47-hectare Boubín Forest is Mount Boubín (1362 meters above sea level). The forest represents a diverse ecosystem rich in fungi, plants, and lichens. A fascinating phenomenon is the decaying wood in various stages of decomposition, along with spruce trees that are up to 500 years old, some reaching over 50 meters in height.

The reserve also includes Lake Boubín, which once served as a reservoir for timber floating and marks the beginning of a nature trail. From the top of the Boubín lookout tower, there is a beautiful view of the Šumava Mountains.

Do you know that...

The forest is estimated to be around 12,000 years old.
