Klášterec Viaduct
A rare viaduct nestled among beautiful forested hills.
Just two kilometers from Vimperk near the settlement of Klášterec, you can admire the impressive Klášterec Viaduct surrounded by a picturesque landscape that still bears traces of the historic Golden Trail. When you reach the viaduct in its green valley, hear the babbling stream and imagine a steam locomotive passing overhead, you'll feel transported to the golden age of railways under the old Austro-Hungarian Empire.
This now rare technical monument was impressive even in its own time. The viaduct was built of unplastered stone blocks forming four arches and was opened in 1900 as part of the newly completed Volary–Strakonice railway line.
It was reconstructed in 2003 and 2004.
