Church of Saint Anne
Concert Hall of the South Bohemian Philharmonic
The Church of Saint Anne, together with the adjacent Capuchin Monastery in České Budějovice, was founded in the early 17th century by Anna of Tyrol, wife of Emperor Matthias of Habsburg. The church’s architecture is typical for the Capuchin order: a simple single-nave building with two side chapels on the northern side. The last mass was held here in 1974, and two years later, the church was completely vacated. Since then, it has undergone transformation and now serves as a concert hall, managed since 1988 by the South Bohemian Philharmonic. The space now fully meets the needs of concerts and other cultural events. Its central location in České Budějovice and excellent acoustics make it one of the key cultural venues in the city. The concert hall, named after the local composer Otakar Jeremiáš, has a capacity of 218 seats and features a modernly designed organ.
