Smithy and Museum of Door Locks in Komařice

Artistic blacksmithing, locksmithing, and metalwork.

In the village of Komařice, about 8 km from Trhové Sviny and 12 km from České Budějovice, you’ll find a smithy and museum owned by Jaromír Čížek.

Jaromír Čížek fell in love with blacksmithing at the age of ten, when he made his first creation – a model pistol. Ten years later, he built a fully functional crossbow, and since then he has crafted candle holders, fireplace tools, armor, railings, and sculptures. Every visitor is warmly welcomed by the owner, who is happy to let them try the craft for themselves.

Thanks to Čížek’s passion for collecting locks, visitors can also explore a lock museum, which is part of the Komařice smithy. Among other things, you can see locks and keys from the 16th century.

Since 2005, the smithy has hosted a traditional “Crafts Gathering” every second weekend in August, with demonstrations of blacksmithing and folk crafts, accompanied by a rich program of events.
