Pořešín Castle with Castle Museum

Pořešín Castle with Castle Museum

The ruins of Pořešín Castle were first mentioned in 1312 and were founded by the Bavon family of Strakonice.

At Pořešín Castle, you will find a castle museum that introduces you to medieval clothing and weaponry. The museum also displays authentic items found directly at the castle – coins, a bone bead, a piece of armor, a knife, spurs, a barrel, and the oldest wooden beam, which was part of a medieval toilet console. Based on 36 years of research on castles along the Malše River, a model of Pořešín Castle as it looked around 1390 was created.

Additional information

The first recorded mention of the castle dates back to 1312. It was founded by the Bavon family of Strakonice, who exchanged it for Vítkovice in 1317. The new owners then adopted the surname "of Pořešín".
After 1423, the Rosenberg family took control of the castle but decided to demolish it in 1434 to prevent it from being fortified by the Hussites.
