Dobronice Castle Ruins
A castle straight out of a Josef Lada illustration – it was used for recreation over 400 years ago. By the Jesuits. The ruins of Dobronice Castle stand on a rocky promontory above the Lužnice River at an altitude of 440 m, about 6 km from the town of Bechyně. Today, the castle is owned by the Bechyně Estate.
The origins of Dobronice Castle date back to the 14th century, when it was owned by the knights of Dobronice and later by the Lords of Rožmberk. In the 16th century, it was rebuilt in the Late Gothic style. From 1691 to 1727, it was owned by the Jesuits, who used it as a summer residence. After the order was dissolved, the castle fell into disrepair and gradually became a ruin.
