Tábor Castle – Měšice

Tábor Castle – Měšice

The castle is the dominant feature of the Měšice district, which once stood on the site of an original village. The castle also includes a large estate.

What caused the maid Anna to be walled in, and how is her fate linked to the chapel of the same name on a nearby hill? Where did the famous Empress Sisi go to the toilet in the castle? You will learn all this and more at Měšice Castle.

During the tour, the owners will reveal what modern living, life, and work at the castle is like. You can view thematic exhibitions focused on Konrad Adenauer, August 21, 1968, or John F. Kennedy. Not to be missed are various furniture exhibits of famous historical figures: the dining table and sofa of Reinhard Heydrich, or Clementine Churchill’s, Art Nouveau beds once owned by Jan Masaryk, and other unique items.

The atmosphere of the castle is complemented by a 350-year-old linden tree growing in front of the southern façade. Every May, the Měšice International Festivities take place there.

The Baroque castle, which now dominates Měšice, one of Tábor’s districts, was created by converting a Renaissance fortress dating back to 1545. After World War II, the heavily damaged castle suffered a bitter fate.

In the second half of the 1990s, the Berwid-Buquoy family managed to reclaim it. Its members will also guide you through their restored home.

Right next to the castle lies the Měšice estate.
