Devil's Burden (Čertovo břemeno)
A rock formation shrouded in legend, set in rural countryside with herds of horses and bison. Čertovo břemeno is a small rock outcrop near the summit of Javorová skála (723 m above sea level), west of the hamlet of Cunkov in the Tábor region.
According to legend, a devil flying with a heavy burden grew tired and stopped at this spot. Seeing a rocky outcrop, he rested there and left a hoofprint in the rock under the weight. Indeed, there is a small depression at the summit. Another version says he intended to destroy a church in Nadějkov, but when he arrived it had already been consecrated. In a rage, he hurled the rock to the ground near Cunkov.
The formation also gave its name to the Čertovo břemeno municipal association in the Jistebnická Highlands.
The area offers peaceful rural scenery. Nearby are Farma/Y, known for breeding Hucul horses, and the guesthouse "U Bisona" with a bison herd.
