Jewish cemetery
Remarkable Baroque and Classicist tombstones can be found in this 18th-century cemetery on the shore of Munický Pond.
The Jewish cemetery is located along the main road on the shore of Munický Pond. It was established sometime in the mid-18th century and preserves a number of remarkable Baroque and Classicist tombstones, the oldest of which dates to 1750. The cemetery originally lay at the very edge of Munický Pond and was about half its current size. Only in the second half of the 19th century was the shoreline adjusted and the cemetery significantly expanded eastward. The importance of the Hluboká cemetery lies in the fact that Jews from a wide area were buried here – from České Budějovice, Rudolfov, and Borovany – places that did not have their own Jewish cemeteries.
How to get there
It is located about 600 meters west of the center of Hluboká nad Vltavou and is easily accessible on foot.
