Opat Trail

Opat Trail

The educational Opat Trail begins just a few meters from the upper gate of the Vyšší Brod Monastery.

The Opat Trail is a nature and heritage trail that leads from the monastery in Vyšší Brod along the valley of the Hamerský Stream, today known as the Menší Vltavice. It includes two routes, marked as Opat Trail I and Opat Trail II.

Opat Trail I

This easy route leads from the Vyšší Brod Monastery area along the yellow tourist trail, past a statue on a high pedestal, along the Opat Canal and Menší Vltavice. The trail is shaped like a figure-eight and returns to the monastery. Information panels along the path provide details about the art of old stonemasons and the Opat Canal. Along the route, you can drink from a reportedly healing spring, and at the farthest point of the trail, you’ll find the Wolfgang Waterfalls.

Opat Trail II

The second Opat Trail (4.2 km) also begins at the Vyšší Brod Monastery, follows a newly marked blue tourist trail and heads toward the village of Loučovice. The 4 km route includes 5 information panels that provide insights into historical, natural, and technical attractions along the trail and in the surrounding area. Each stop offers rest on a bench, and approximately halfway through the trail, there is a covered seating area. The trail is suitable for families with children and less experienced hikers.

Additional information
