Řežabinec and the Řežabinec Pools

In the heart of unspoiled nature

This shallow pond was built in the former riverbed of the Otava River in 1530 at the initiative of Christopher of Švamberk, lord of Zvíkov Castle. Its dam, 550 meters long, creates a water surface of 87 hectares. This uncleaned pond with overgrown banks was declared a nature reserve as early as 1949 to protect aquatic plant communities and waterfowl. A 3 km long educational trail with 12 information panels runs around the entire reserve, and in the eastern part of the pond, there is a partially accessible observation tower from which visitors can observe the surrounding nature. If you visit between April and June, you will see the largest number of birds; however, the greatest variety of bird species can be found here in autumn.
