Additional information
The Wandering Stone is located directly on Přemysl Otakar II Square in České Budějovice, about 4 meters from Samson’s Fountain towards Grandhotel Zvon.
The Wandering Stone is a remnant of the original cobblestone pavement. It marks the spot where the town’s execution site once stood.
According to legend, in 1470 (or 1478), ten journeymen were executed here for daring to oppose the town bailiff.
It is called the "Wandering Stone", because according to legend, whoever steps over it after 10 PM will wander the streets until morning, unable to find their way home.
You will immediately recognize it, as it stands out from the surrounding cobblestones – it is rounded and marked with a carved cross.
Do you know that...
… if you step on the stone after 10 PM, you won’t be able to find your way home until morning?
